The RUD Tecdos MSB maintenance station is the all-in-one solution for improved tool handling, as it enables simple and optimised maintenance of tools and moulds. The innovative maintenance station is therefore perfectly suited for use in injection and die casting technology as well as in tool and mould making.
Recognising a gap in the market
‘This is completely new on the market: a single device that can be used for all the important steps in handling moulds and tools weighing up to 2.5 tonnes. From opening and turning to maintenance and testing. Until now, similar solutions have only been available for moulds and dies weighing several tonnes,’ explains Anne Kühling, product manager in the field of conveying and driving at RUD Ketten Rieger & Dietz GmbH u. Co. KG. Recognising this gap in the market, the specialist in mould handling solutions has developed the maintenance station, which usefully complements the product portfolio, particularly for lighter and more compact moulds and dies.
All-in-one tool handling
The RUD Tecdos MSB maintenance station is based on the RUD Tecdos TMB industrial workbench with an integrated turntable (120 cm x 80 cm). It ensures safe and ergonomic turning of tools weighing up to 2.5 tonnes – simply by using a cordless screwdriver. New: with an additional opening function and test device, it becomes an all-in-one maintenance station. T-slot rails are attached to one side of the tool turner to securely fix tool halves.
And here's the really cool part: thanks to a pneumatically mounted plate, moulds and tools weighing up to 2.5 tonnes can be moved easily and safely at the push of a button and processed directly on the maintenance station. ‘In principle, the air cushion makes it easier to open the tools and moulds. But the optional hydraulic unit for ejector tests also makes it possible to open a tool structure with back pressure pins,’ explains Jochen Schwegler, Technical Consultant for Application Technology at Nonnenmann GmbH.
Simplified and optimised processes
As a compact unit, RUD Tecdos MSB can be accommodated in any plant, where it simplifies processes and handling. The maintenance station puts an end to complex intermediate steps and instead standardises the workflow: opening, turning, cleaning, maintaining and testing the tools and moulds all take place centrally on one device.
Tests and quality control
The maintenance station not only optimises tool handling processes, but also improves tool quality and process reliability in general. ‘Our experience and also the feedback from the market show: Because time is lacking, many tools are not tested, but rather inserted directly into the machine. If there are then disruptions or problems, because for example the temperature control channels are not permeable or are leaking, the tool must be removed from the injection moulding machine and repaired. That costs time and money,’ emphasises Anne Kühling.
To avoid unpleasant surprises later on in the injection moulding machine, tools and moulds can be quickly and easily checked directly at the RUD Tecdos MSB maintenance station, for example by means of an ejector or leak test of the temperature control.
Increased occupational safety and ergonomics
What's more, the maintenance station makes handling safe and ergonomic, as it enables work that is fully compliant with the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV). ‘Anyone who drags loads across the factory floor with a crane or pulls them at an angle is not only working dangerously, but also in violation of current standards, because Section 37 of the German Social Accident Insurance's accident prevention regulations for cranes expressly prohibits this,’ says Kühling. With RUD Tecdos MSB, the crane, rope and crowbar can take a break.
Wide product portfolio
The RUD Tecdos MSB maintenance station is already the fifth innovation in the field of mould handling in just a few years. ‘This shows how great the demand is for process optimisation and occupational safety, especially in the injection moulding industry,’ emphasises Kühling. The RUD Tecdos TM turnover table and the RUD Tecdos TMB industrial workbench turn over tools and moulds gently and safely. The RUD Tecdos TS electric tool opener and the RUD Tecdos TSB manual tool opener separate tools and moulds.
